4-Eyed Dzi Bead: The 4 eyes on this Dzi bead is a symbolism of the 4 major Bodhisattvas of Buddhism. The 4 Mahasattva Bodhisattvas are of particular significance in Mahayana texts: Maitreya (popularly known as Laughing Buddha), Avalokitesvara (popularly known as Kwan Yin), Manjusri, and Mahasthamaprapta. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have put off entering paradise in order to help others attain enlightenment. The Bodhisattva upon death leaves the cycle of life-death-rebirth and enter nirvana, but out of his great compassion for all other beings chooses instead to remain in the samsaric realm to aid suffering humanity.
